Our client is a Special School, College, Registered Children's Home and Adult Supported Living House with 250 staff contributing to having a positive influence on the lives, communication and wellbeing of children and young people with special needs. Their 70 students are aged 5 to 19 and have needs that include autism, language and communication disorders, ADHD, severe and complex learning difficulties and challenging behaviour.

As a Residential Education Worker, each day is different and they are looking for dedicated Residential Education Workers to join their residential care team on a permanent basis, supporting young people with complex learning disabilities, severe social communication and behavioural issues.

You will be supporting their young people within their residential houses on site, outside of the school day, at weekends and in the school holidays, helping them to develop interests and life skills. The team will work with teachers and therapists to assess and monitor progress of each student. You will assist with personal care, choosing and preparing meals, shopping, money handling and accompanying activities on and off site. During the school holidays our young people really enjoy trips off site, fully supported by their residential team. Recent trips include to the beach and safari park, adventure parks, meals out, inclusive cycling sessions and Airhop.

You will have the ongoing support of a skilled and dedicated management team.  Comprehensive training and mentoring includes learning about safeguarding, autism and positive behaviour support. They will equip you with the skills and confidence to support our young people, offer them boundaries and choices and provide safe and effective physical intervention when needed.

They are a non-maintained specialist school, college and on-site children's home working with complex and vulnerable children and young people, many with autism. This role gives you the opportunity to make a real difference to their lives, build life skills and to help equip them for adulthood.

You don't need experience. You need empathy, enthusiasm and compassion along with mental, physical and emotional resilience and the drive to make a real difference to the lives of the most complex children and vulnerable young people. You must be prepared to provide personal care (after full training) as some of our young people require assistance to remain clean and comfortable.

You will progress to a Senior Residential Education Worker level after 2 years working in the residential care team and on completion of a QCF Level 3 in Residential Childcare (subject to satisfactory progression and appraisal) earning £28,232 - £29,881. If recruited, you will be required to complete Team Teach positive behaviour support training as part of your week long induction before employment, refreshed annually.

You will need to be able to work 37 hours per week in a shift pattern which will be advised to you, including weekend working, and undertake sleep in duties as required (and will be paid the appropriate rate for sleep-in shifts).
